JOB SUMMARYThe Dispatcher position ensures the optimal assignment of personnel, equipment, and trucks to meet daily operational requirements for TDS. This role plays a central part in maintaining daily workloads by monitoring route progress, re‑routing or splitting routes, and resolving driver and customer concerns as they arise. The Dispatcher collaborates closely with Operations, Customer Care, Sales, and affiliate partners to support service delivery and maintain high operational standards.
CORERESPONSIBILITIES
- Updates master files and prepares route files for producing schedule and work order‑based routes based on schedules provided by Operations Management.
- Support drivers by uploading daily route information and troubleshooting data issues with them on their tablets.
- Assign work to drivers and vehicles based on various factors including distance, time restraints, traffic, and driver skillset.
- Communicate to Operations Management any drivers not logged into their assigned routes daily.
- Respond to internal calls and emails regarding services including equipment placement, driver ETA and service concerns.
- Respond to drivers’ calls via landline and driver issued radios.
- Review future work requests to ensure adequate drivers will be scheduled, equipment required is onsite and ready to meet customers’ requests.
- Communicate to drivers on route multiple times throughout the day to ensure safe operations of trucks, completion of work assigned, and resolve service concerns. Reroute any work that may not be completed by the current driver to ensure it will be completed.
- Debrief drivers at end of route to ensure all work is reflected as complete, disposal information was obtained and entered, pictures reflected on any service concern or skipped stop, and log off time is populated.
- Obtain details on any incomplete work orders and share with the driver’s management team.
- Review open logs and route files from prior day. Resolve missing data and close the files.
- Communicate route delays to customer support teams with projected plans on completion of delayed services.
- Properly identify priority services in routing software to help identify trends and efficiency concerns.
- Follow TDS communication protocols for service calls, safety incidents, hot loads and other abnormal safety concerns while on route that may arise.
- Attend monthly safety meetings.
- Enter and maintain vital operational service documentation on accounts ensuring routes are profitable and efficient.
- Communicate service concerns with customers the same day to prevent delayed services.
- Enter any necessary work orders to help ensure service for a customer. Contact customers to help resolve issues when a driver is onsite.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or its equivalent.
- At least two years of customer service or waste industry experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to use common office equipment – i.e., phones, radio systems, desktop computers.
- Proficiency with using internet mapping programs.
- Ability to achieve proficiency with all data management software and applications utilized for dispatch processes within the first six months.
- Must have basic math skills.
- Ability to achieve proficiency with routing software used by TDS dispatchers within the first six months.
- Ability to effectively and fluently communicate in English in both written and verbal form.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram format.
- Problem‑solving ability.
- Knowledge of safety practices, accident management and commercial driver’s license regulations.
- Ability to achieve proficiency with TDS locations and service areas in each line of business within the first six months.
- Industry or trucking knowledge and/or experience.
- Dispatching experience.
Monday – Friday 11:00 am – 8:00 pm (Rotating Saturdays)
