Helicopter Operations Data Technician
We are seeking a Helicopter Operations & Airborne Data Technician to support flight-based testing operations for airborne data collection initiatives. This role will support helicopter and fixed-wing testing activities, manage installed flight equipment, operate command software, and ensure accurate data collection during airborne missions.
This position is ideal for candidates with military aviation experience or exposure to flight operations environments. Aviation knowledge is highly preferred. The individual will also serve as a field-based operational lead, coordinating testing activities and acting in a functional PM capacity during missions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Support helicopter and fixed-wing flight testing operations.
- Manage and monitor specialized equipment installed on aircraft.
- Execute system commands through flight control software during missions.
- Collect and validate airborne data captured from forward-mounted aircraft systems.
- Ensure proper transmission and integrity of horizontally transiting data sets.
- Coordinate with pilots, flight operators, and engineering teams to execute testing protocols.
- Troubleshoot equipment and software issues in real time.
- Maintain accurate documentation of flight operations and test results.
- Serve as on-site point of contact for operational execution during missions.
Required qualifications include:
- Prior military experience strongly preferred (aviation or flight operations background ideal).
- Foundational technical proficiency (comfortable operating laptops, software tools, and field equipment).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including overnight shifts as needed.
- Willingness to travel domestically up to 75% (historically lower).
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work in dynamic, outdoor, and operational aviation environments.
- Must successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Aviation operations experience.
- Experience with airborne data collection, UAV/drone operations, or flight testing.
- Familiarity with mission-based software command systems.
- Experience acting as a field lead or operational coordinator.
Work environment & schedule may include nights, early mornings, and weather-dependent shifts. Domestic travel dependent on flight test schedules and weather conditions.
Salary range: $40,000 - $50,000 annually. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, long-term and short-term disability insurance, 5 personal days accrued each calendar year, 10-15 days of paid vacation time, 6 paid holidays and 1 floating holiday per calendar year.
