Control Systems Engineer
POSITION LOCATION:
Henry, IL (onsite) & remotely/onsite support our Avon Lake, OH location as needed
Our Polymer Solutions plant in Henry, IL, is seeking to hire a Control Systems Engineer to provide day-to-day support to the Production and Maintenance teams, aiming to minimize production downtime. The Control Systems Engineer will design, implement, and test automations and control systems for process or manufacturing systems. This role will require you to have a strong knowledge of DCS (Delta-V) and PLC programs with ladder logic programming and troubleshooting.
ResponsibilitiesOperate with a focus on safety and environmental compliance
Designing, implementing, and supporting DCS, PLC, HMI, and SCADA software for control systems and equipment
Maintain the manufacturing plant's control systems at "World Class" standards
Install software updates with the latest versions
Participate on project teams and serve as site SME in the development of control/instrumentation systems and specifications
Support factory acceptance testing of new equipment systems
Lead the development and execution of small projects that are electrical/controls in nature; upgrading of obsolete controls to modern technology
Work with corporate engineering to support the maintenance and improvement of site electrical infrastructure, equipment, and standards as needed
Perform system start-ups and operational checkouts on systems, including configuration, wiring, calibration, grounding, and power testing
Reload and reboot PLC to restore faulted equipment after power outages
Perform preventative maintenance and routine inspections, as needed
Provide hardware and software application support assistance to maintenance and production
Set up and configure replacement electronic and control components to fit specific applications
Working with others in the Operations and Maintenance teams to maintain the plant's process networks
Utilize technical materials such as equipment manuals, SDS, safety materials, system drawings, Process and Instrument Diagrams (P&'s), schematics, and blueprints to troubleshoot and maintain systems
Update, modify, and continuously improve existing control systems, including ladder logic programs, relay logic, electrical distribution, motor controls, operator interface, hydraulics, and pneumatics distribution and control
Knowledge RequirementsBasic computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
Excellent attention to detail
Good organizational and time management skills
Basic decision-making and problem-solving skills
Must be able to work on feet for at least 8 hours
Any other tasks as requested by Leadership
Ability to support Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
Ability to address on-call requests as needed
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
Familiarity with communication networks like Ethernet/IP and Modbus
Understanding of process instrumentation (sensors, actuators, etc.)
Understanding of low-voltage distribution, safety relays, and emergency stop circuits
Knowledge of databases and historians for logging machine data
Understanding of feedback loops & PID controllers
Education/Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related engineering field
5-10 years of experience in process control and automation
5-10 years of experience in programming/developing/configuring DeltaV, PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA software for control systems
