Job Description:
Full-time, year-round position responsible for coordinating and teaching Criminal Justice Academy classes specifically for the corrections program. Additional duties may include coordinating and assisting with the Associate in Science degree Criminal Justice Technology program. Typical work schedule:
Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Coordinates Academy classes
a. Discusses training needs with Director, Criminal Justice Programs and schedules classes as needed in accordance with College policies/procedures.
b. Recruits qualified instructors for classes, and supervises/evaluates instruction to ensure quality training.
c. Coordinates scheduling of qualified instructors for all classes.
d. Stays abreast of current attendance records of the students and discusses any absences with the Program director.
e. Arranges makeup work for those students with excused absences in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Criminal Justice Programs and FDLE.
f. Supervises students and resolves classroom problems in accordance with Criminal Justice programs rules and regulations.
g. Assists and participates in the coordination of graduation exercises.
* Performs classroom instruction and/or practical exercise training.
a. Provides instruction at the discretion and direction of the Criminal Justice programs director.
b. Maintains certification as an instructor in both general and high liability areas, as well as remaining thoroughly knowledgeable of all Academy courses.
* Coordinates all in-service, incentive, advanced, and specialized classes.
a. Maintains contact and coordination with law enforcement and correctional institutions served by the College to determine training needs and scheduling of classes.
b. Works with Academy staff to schedule classes.
c. Prepares announcements and mail-outs for upcoming classes.
d. Arranges for instructors for upcoming classes.
e. Keeps abreast of current developments in the areas of training responsibilities.
* Participates in professional development.
a. Attends training sessions, workshops, and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills as job responsibility and authorization dictates.
* Performs administrative supervisory responsibilities.
a. Adheres to and enforces the administrative policies and procedures of the College, Criminal Justice Program, and FDLE.
b. Exercises good judgment and care in the use of materials and equipment designated for use in the course or program being taught.
c. Adheres to the moral and ethical standards of the College and the profession.
d. Demonstrates good physical fitness health and grooming standards.
e. Demonstrates good attendance and punctuality.
f. Serves on committees as assigned.
g. Maintains good relationships with community agencies and other College departments.
* Contributes to unit planning, assessment, and college institutional effectiveness efforts.
* Acts in accordance with local, state, and federal laws/regulations as well as College policies and procedures.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Educational:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice (or related field) required;
Master's degree preferred. In exceptional cases, the combination of extensive law enforcement or corrections experience, FDLE certification, and college coursework may be considered equivalent to the degree requirement.
Experiential:
Minimum of five years of experience in law enforcement or corrections required. (Corrections experience preferred.) Experience teaching Criminal Justice courses is preferred.
Other:
Current F.D.L.E. instructional certification and certification in at least two high liability areas required (or ability to obtain certification in two high liability instructional areas as soon as possible after employed). Corrections certification highly recommended.
