Position SummaryUtilizing the nursing process, provides high quality direct and indirect patient‑centered care. Coordinates patient care by working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team. Communicates the patient's clinical condition, responding quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provides age‑appropriate care. Promotes the profession of nursing through collegial support and interactions.
Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
- Performs comprehensive assessments and re‑assessments of the patient's condition and care needs, including psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural aspects.
- Assesses and reassesses pain, utilizing appropriate pain management tools and techniques and educating the patient and family.
- Documents assessments, interventions, and evaluation of effectiveness in the nursing process.
- Develops and revises individualized care plans, collaborating with other disciplines as needed.
- Follows the five medication rights and reduces medication error potential.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in a safe environment that promotes positive outcomes.
- Documents the nursing process and responses to care in a timely manner using appropriate tools.
- Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.
- Utilizes critical thinking and sound judgment in priority setting and delegation.
- Formulates and implements teaching plans for patients and families, evaluating effectiveness.
- Practices autonomous evidence‑based nursing and pursues professional growth and development.
- Serves as a professional role model and mentor.
- Assists physicians with peri‑anesthesia care procedures, including cardioversion, insertion of peripheral and central monitoring lines, and epidural catheter placement.
- Manages airway, assesses cardio‑respiratory systems for changes, and provides appropriate treatment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions, and side effects.
- Provides accurate and pertinent reports of patient condition for safe transfer of care.
- Effective communication in English, verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer skills.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school and current RN license in Connecticut.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support upon hire or within the introductory orientation period, maintaining clinical competency.
- Critical care experience preferred.
