Position: Building Technician I

Position Overview

The Town of Avon, Colorado is accepting applications for a Building Technician I. The Building Technician I is responsible for operating various building systems, machinery, and tools in a safe and efficient manner to maintain, analyze, repair and perform semi‑skilled and skilled improvements to town facilities and equipment. The position also maintains and repairs mechanical and electrical operational systems including heating, air conditioning, ventilation, plumbing, lighting, and distribution.

Responsibilities
  • Implements systems and procedures for organizing and updating preventative maintenance schedules of the town’s buildings and equipment.
  • Maintains daily records and generates regular facility inspection reports of all maintenance activities.
  • Inspects and monitors daily, weekly, monthly, and bi‑annually operation systems in town buildings for overall condition.
  • Prioritizes and performs scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of equipment and buildings in a timely manner.
  • Provides technical assistance in creating scope of work for repairs, projects, and service contracts for all disciplines.
  • Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure maintenance functions are efficient and cost effective.
  • Attends staff meetings to report problems or situations and resolution with maintenance and operations.
  • Works cooperatively with personnel in the performance of assigned duties to maximize the efficiency and quality of work.
  • Performs specialized installation, fabrication, and/or repair maintenance of town facilities and equipment.
  • Observes and enforces proper safety precautions as outlined in the Facility Maintenance Procedures Manual and as stated in the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the variety of chemicals and solvents used in the facility.
  • Takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances, and acts accordingly to prevent accidents.
  • Uses all required safety equipment.
  • Purchases, repairs and inventories maintenance material tools, and equipment.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work and inventory area.
  • Qualifications
    • Knowledge of basic mechanics, carpentry, plumbing and other repair techniques, tools, and equipment.
    • Knowledge of and skilled in BAS (Building Automation Systems) integration of computer controls and BMS (Building Management Systems) application software for equipment management and repairs.
    • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, swimming pool, circulation, boiler, and plumbing systems.
    • Knowledge of a wide variety of cleaning supplies, solvents, lubricants, and swimming pool sanitizing chemicals.
    • Ability to give verbal and written instructions and to inspect the work of others while acting as a lead worker.
    • Ability to work courteously and effectively with the public and staff to provide a high level of service.
    • Ability to maintain harmonious relations among staff and promote efficiency.
    • Ability to communicate in English effectively both verbally and in writing;
      Spanish is a plus.
    • Ability to operate a Town vehicle safely and legally.
    • Requires possession of Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
    • High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience working with technical and maintenance operations in a similar facility or related construction field.
