Engineering Technician – 2nd Shift (3:00–11:30pm)

Location:

Avon, CT. The role supports the Glassworks department by operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting manufacturing equipment for fiber optic preform drilling and machining.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate equipment to drill and machine fiber optic preforms.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, emptying, and replenishing coolant tanks and filters.
  • Execute tooling changeovers between different products.
  • Inspect quality of work against drawings and specifications.
  • Maintain database of process and inspection results and review process stability.
  • Manage tooling inventory.
  • Run multiple machines concurrently.
  • Maintain a safe work area and documented 6S/Audit compliance.
  • Support production rod draw needs.
  • Complete material transactions in JDE and report scrap.
  • Identify machine‑related issues requiring Engineering or Maintenance support.
  • Participate in Total Preventive Maintenance program.
Key Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
    Associate Degree in Engineering discipline a plus.
  • Minimum 2 years of CNC operation experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with machine tools and gauges.
  • Desirable experience with machining glass materials.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of metrology and geometric tolerancing.
  • Ability to work with tight tolerances ±0.0001”.
  • Proficiency reading blueprints and complex manufacturing drawings.
  • Ability to write procedures and understand complex drawings/layouts.
  • Positive attitude, excellent organizational and leadership skills, and attention to detail.
  • Effective time management and efficient job flow handling.
