Assistant Director of Special Education
The Assistant Director of Special Education supports the Director of Special Education in planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating special education programs and services across the district. This position ensures compliance with federal and state special education laws and regulations, promotes high-quality instructional practices, supports school administrators and staff, and advocates for the success of students with disabilities. The Assistant Director collaborates with administrators, teachers, related service providers, families, and community agencies to ensure that students receive appropriate educational services in the least restrictive environment and have access to meaningful educational opportunities.
Salary: $99,245 commensurate with experience Technology Stipend: $1,200.00 per year 401(a) Contribution: 5% of base salary 403(b) Stipend: $2,000.00 per year divided over 26 pays FLSA Status:

Experience:
Minimum of five years of successful experience in special education. Experience as an Assistant Director of Special Education or Director of Special Education Experience with special education compliance, IEP development, and program management preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Leadership and Administration
• Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of special education programs and services.
• Support district initiatives related to special education, inclusive practices, and student achievement.
• Coordinate and monitor special education services to ensure effective program delivery.
• Assist in developing and maintaining department procedures, handbooks, and operational guidelines.
• Participate in strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts. Compliance and Legal Requirements
• Ensure compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Section 504
• Monitor implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and procedural safeguards.
• Assist with special education audits, monitoring activities, and state reporting requirements.
• Coordinate responses to complaints, mediation requests, due process hearings, and corrective action plans.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation required by law. Student Services
• Support the identification, evaluation, placement, and provision of services for students with disabilities.
• Review evaluation reports, IEPs, and eligibility documentation for compliance and educational appropriateness
• Promote inclusive educational opportunities and least restrictive environment (LRE) practices.
• Collaborate with school personnel to address complex student cases and behavioral concerns. Staff Support and Professional Development
• Provide guidance and technical assistance to principals, teachers, related service providers, and support staff.
• Plan and facilitate professional development related to special education laws, instructional practices, behavior supports, and compliance requirements.
• Assist in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, supervising, and evaluating special education personnel.
• Foster collaborative relationships among multidisciplinary teams.
• Support staffing and resource allocation decisions based on student needs. Family and Community Engagement
• Serve as a resource for parents and guardians regarding special education services and processes.
• Facilitate positive communication and conflict resolution between families and schools.
