Job
Responsibilities- Assist elementary students in classrooms with educational programs, special assignments, and individual assistance as needed.
- Assist students with learning tasks and Individualized Education Programs (IEP); conduct learning exercises to help students achieve learning objectives, both one‑to‑one and in small groups.
- Help develop individual learning plans, class lesson plans, and special events; assist with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
- Supervise students and aid in maintaining good conduct; guide students in work and play activities; alert teachers to behavioral and learning issues.
- Document special issues and ensure required written reports are completed and submitted daily; assist with clerical duties, copying, and record‑keeping.
- Communicate with parents, students, and staff to convey pertinent information while keeping personal information confidential.
- Enforce district policies and rules of conduct; report behavioral issues and other concerns to a supervisor or principal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of classroom procedures and processes.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
- Skill in monitoring and improving student behavior and learning skills.
- Skill in assisting children and special needs students, and assessing educational needs.
- Skill in maintaining composure and working effectively under classroom conditions.
- Skill in using courtesy and respect when instructing students.
- Skill in communicating effectively in verbal and written forms.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co‑workers and others.
Work is performed in a classroom environment with moderate physical demands.
Required:
vision corrected to 20/20, normal hearing (corrected), clear speech, and ability to lift, move, and carry up to 40 pounds.
Associate’s degree plus at least one year of experience working with children; OR high‑school diploma with certification by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) in Paraprofessional (Para Pro) assessment; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skill. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
Required Licenses/Certifications- First Aid & CPR
- Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Ten months per year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EvaluationPerformance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
