Provide broad support to the Avondale Elementary School District in all areas related to Exceptional Students.
Qualifications Required- Valid Arizona Elementary, Special Education or Secondary Teaching Certificate related to Special Education OR a current and valid Arizona license to deliver OT, PT, Speech, Psychologist, or Counseling Services
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to pass a background check upon employment
- Must possess a valid IVP Fingerprint clearance card
- Five years successful classroom teaching experience in Special Education (preferred)
- Masters Degree (preferred)
- Three years of leadership experience or AZ Administrative Certificate (preferred)
- Knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, policies and procedures.
- Ability to model and articulate the terms, concepts, and requirements, both federal and state, related to the provision of Exceptional Students Services, with others to ensure the provision of FAPE.
- Knowledge of applicable Avondale Elementary School District and departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Exceptional Student Services delivery system, standards, as well as state and federal requirement competencies.
- Working knowledge and a keen interest in emerging requirements, mandates, and best practices for Exceptional Students, especially for Child Find, Individual Education Plans, and Medicaid in Public Schools.
- A history of, ability to, work cooperatively with Administration, District staff, and teachers.
- Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.
- Preparation and facilitation of department wide compliance trainings.
- Ongoing monitoring of IEP Compliance reports and follow up (e.g. overdue IEPs and METs).
- Ongoing monitoring of Medicaid Compliance reports and follow up.
- Ongoing review and monitoring of individual Special Education electronic and paper files for compliance and best practices.
- Ongoing feedback and training to staff based on electronic and paper files reviews of individual students.
- Monitoring and tracking of student IEP goals, service plans, and achievement data.
- Monitoring and tracking of student enrollment data, staffing, and caseloads.
- Support in response to Child Find questions and tracking of private school evaluations.
- Consultation regarding compliance and legal guidance for department policies regarding Evaluations and IEPs.
- Collaborate with administration on revisions, updates, and maintenance of the Exceptional Students and Comprehensive Health Department Manual and Procedures.
- Support Exceptional Student Services department for ADE monitoring, compliance requests, and file reviews.
- Other duties related to Special Education compliance as assigned by the Director of Exceptional Students Services.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain an Arizona driver's license.
- May be required to lift and carry heavy, bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- May be required to work outside normal working hours.
- May be required to travel to perform work functions.
Performance for this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provision of Board Policy
- Professional Staff Evaluations.
