Job SummaryEstrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring a One-Year-Only (OYO) Counseling Service Faculty member to work in the Counseling Department. This position supports student success through comprehensive counseling services and instruction. The faculty member will provide brief on‑site counseling (personal, academic, crisis, and career), collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and community members to develop student achievement programs, facilitate workshops on study skills, career development, and interpersonal skills, and teach Counseling Personal Development (CPD/BHS), First Year Experience (FYE), and Counseling and Applied Psychological Science (CAPS) courses.
EssentialFunctions
- Delivers in‑person comprehensive counseling services through scheduled appointments and walk‑in availability to address personal, academic, and career concerns. Provides crisis intervention and supports emergency situations from individual student crises to broader campus incidents; consults with faculty, staff, and administrators regarding student concerns, referrals, and appropriate interventions; communicates through in‑person, phone, virtual, and email interactions while maintaining accurate and timely documentation.
- Collaborates with counseling colleagues and campus teams to support a cohesive, professional department environment and student‑centered approach.
- Develops and presents workshops on counseling, academic success, and personal development topics.
- Builds and maintains partnerships with community agencies and external resources to support student needs.
- Participates in campus and district committees, special projects, program initiatives, curriculum development, and faculty/staff development.
- Provides leadership in assigned programs, contributes to the department and college through continuous improvement of Counseling Services, including oversight of designated functions and processes.
- Engages in faculty development activities, including orientation, evaluations, and ongoing professional growth in counseling, consultation, and teaching.
- Instigates courses in the Counseling Course Bank (e.g., FYE, CAP, CPD, and BHS); prepares syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials aligned with course competencies; provides instructional support and holds regular office hours.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree or higher in a relevant teaching field.
- Completion of at least five of the following six graduate courses (minimum 3 semester credit hours each):
- Counseling Theories and Techniques
- Personality Theories or Human Development
- Testing Theories and Applications
- Group Counseling Theories and Techniques
- Career Counseling Theories and Resources
- Individual Assessment
- Completion of a Practicum, Supervised Practice, or Internship in Counseling (must be completed before date of hire, with any deficiencies in the first six areas made up within one year of hire).
