Responsibilities- Research, determine, and implement effective ways to use the workforce, machines, materials, and information to manufacture high precision optics.
- Increase productivity and reduce costs by advancing the workforce, creating efficient methods, and introducing new technology to the manufacturing process.
- Resolve manufacturing issues from the most apparent symptoms to root cause using the DMAIC process or similar techniques.
- Coordinate on technical‑level resolution/corrective action for process problems and defective materials.
- Lead the development and implementation of reliable manufacturing methods, working across functional groups; develop and implement new manufacturing processes and concepts.
- Design, conduct, and report on experiments to characterize and validate new or changed manufacturing processes.
- Initiate capital expansion programs to facilitate cost improvement of products.
- Prepare technical reports and feasibility studies.
- Apply statistical methods to determine manufacturing processes and production standards.
- Coordinate objectives and activities to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability, and minimize cost.
- Develop, train, and certify manufacturing personnel on new methods and work instructions.
- Develop programs and data tracking for spectral testing of precision optics across a variety of measurement techniques.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics or a similar discipline.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering documentation such as drawings, part specifications, and bills of material.
- Computer skills:
Basic MS Office Suite required; CAD or Solid Works modeling software and MRP software are a plus. - Experience with SPC, Minitab, or other statistical models desired.
- Spectroscopy experience required; ability to program testing modules a plus.
- Experience with Corrective Action Reporting through 8D, A3, 7 Step, PDCA, or DMAIC processes required.
- Lean or Six Sigma manufacturing knowledge desired for process optimization through Design of Experiments.
