The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is the state agency responsible for conservation of the state's natural resources. DFG exercises responsibility over the Commonwealth's marine and freshwater fisheries, wildlife, plants, and natural communities, and provides outdoor recreation opportunities to the public.

Mass Wildlife is responsible for the conservation of freshwater fish and wildlife in the Commonwealth, including endangered plants and animals. Mass Wildlife restores, protects, and manages land for wildlife to thrive and for people to enjoy.

The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking two (2) Wildlife Assistant Specialist Contractors. The Wildlife Assistant Specialists will provide support to the Wildlife and Fisheries Biologists, Stewardship Biologist and Wildlife Technicians assisting in field, technical, and administrative duties that contribute to wildlife conservation and research contributing to biodiversity of species, habitat management, R3 efforts and wildlife-related recreational opportunities, and public service.

This position involves extensive fieldwork in varying environmental conditions, as well as office-based technical assistance and public communication. These are six month full time (40/hr week) positions with an hourly range of $28.50 - $33.50/hr.

• Assist Wildlife Biologist with wildlife conservation surveys, monitoring and research.
• Supports and conducts research on state threatened and endangered species.
• Assist with fish and aquatic surveys and fisheries conservation efforts.
• Assist stewardship biologist with stewardship on WMAs including marking boundaries and habitat management.
• Assist with data collection of hunter-harvested wildlife, supporting R3 efforts.
• Assist field staff with R3 projects providing wildlife and fisheries-related recreational opportunities for the public.

• Provide technical assistance to clerical staff and engage with the public responding to wildlife and fisheries related activities.
• Provide technical assistance for public range permits.
• Assist with selling hunting and fishing licenses through the Mass Fish Hunt  online licensing system.
• Assist with other outreach and technical assistance and administrative duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of basic principles and techniques of fisheries and wildlife biology.
• General working knowledge of all Division programs.
