The Library Department is now hiring a Part-Time Library Bookmobile Specialist!
Salary Information: $25.29 - $30.74 hourly

Part-Time Employee Notes: Part-time employees cannot work more than 1,000 hours per fiscal year, serve at will, and are exempt from the Civil Service System.

Under general supervision, drives, organizes and maintains the Library’s Bookmobile; prepares the Bookmobile for events to include loading proper materials, setting up materials at event site, and assisting event patrons; performs related duties as required.
Class CharacteristicsThe Library Bookmobile Specialist classification is assigned to the City’s Library Services and drives the Bookmobile to designated locations for patron access to library materials.
Supervision ExercisedReceives supervision from the Library Services Manager. Incumbent exercises no supervision.
Essential Functions- Drives the Bookmobile to and from designated locations; retrieves and returns the Bookmobile for each shift;
- Plans and determines locations for Bookmobile stops and other library programs; inspects technology to ensure proper functioning; stores equipment after each stop.
- Provides assistance to patrons at Bookmobile locations;
- Checks out materials; processes cards; responds to account inquiries.
- Processes and mends books; prepares materials for circulation;
- Shelves materials inside the Bookmobile; performs routine inventory; identifies materials for potential weeding.
- Cleans and maintains the Bookmobile.
- Provides reference assistance at Library service desks;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
- Education: HS/GED;
- Experience: One year of experience driving a bus or van and in assisting the public providing customer service.
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
Knowledge:
- Library procedures, methods, and equipment;
- Traffic laws and regulations;
- Library systems and technology;
- Customer service policies and procedures.
Ability:
- Ability to safely operate a vehicle;
- Provide assistance and support to patrons;
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships;
- Use of desktop software;
- Applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and overhead presentations;
- Troubleshoot laptops and library equipment.

Environmental Conditions- Work is performed in a public library setting and designated City locations.
- Required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends from time-to-time.
- Driving a vehicle to conduct work;
- Prolonged sitting and regular standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities;
- Grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard;
- Near and far vision in reading written reports and work related documents;
- Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service;
- Lift, drag and push files, paper and documents weighing up to 20 pounds.
