7.50 Hours/Day (8:30 am-4:00 pm), Monday-Friday 185 Days/Year
Minimum Hourly Salary: $20.00
PURPOSEOFPOSITION:Theparaeducatorsassignedtospecialeducationclassesorprogramsprovideinstructionalsupporttotheteacher (instructional leader) and students and are under the general supervision of the program Supervisor of Special Education.
KNOWLEDGE&SKILL REQUIREMENTS:Education Required: High School Diplomaor High School Equivalency
EffectiveJuly1,2010–Alsomustmeetoneofthefollowingfourqualifications:
- Havecompletedthe Credential of Competency for Special Education Paraeducatorsthroughthe PA Department of Education (or be willing to complete within 6 months of employment). A copy of the credential must be submitted within 30 days of hire or when received from PDE.
- Havecompletedatleast2yearsofpostsecondarystudywithaminimumof
48credithours.
Copyof transcript required within 30 days of employment. - Possessanassociatedegreeorhigher.
Copyofdegreeortranscriptsrequiredwithin
30daysof employment. - Meetarigorousstandardofqualityasdemonstratedthroughanapprovedformofassessmentwithin6 months of employment.
- As required by the PA Department of
Education:
Each school year, provide evidence of 20 hours of staff developmentactivitiesrelatedtoposition.
Pro-rationwillapplybasedondateofhirewithintheschoolyear.
Skills Required:Verbalcommunicationskillsandtheabilitytofollowdirections.
Computer
Skills:
Basicskillsrelatedtodataentry,internet/email usage,word processing,and spreadsheets.
Certification
Required:
Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI),Safe Crisis Management Non -Violent Crisis Intervention(SCM) orQuality Behavioral Solutions :
Safety-Care Crisis Prevention (QBS), as directed by program needs.
- Thestrengthandabilitytoliftand/orassistinliftingstudentsranginginagefrompre-schooltotwenty-oneandany assistive appliances, for example: wheelchair.
- The ability to physically restrain students in emotional stress by using the Crisis Prevention Institute Training (CPI),Safe Crisis Management (SCM) orQuality Behavior Supports (QBS) method,dependingonprogramneed, for which training will be provided.
- Mustbeabletocontextuallyrun/sprintafter/toanelopingchildandbeabletohelpalearneroffthefloorshould they drop to the floor under their own power.
