Position Summary

The Fabrication Materials & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating the end-to-end material flow for large fabrication projects at Steward Machine Company’s Bainbridge, GA plant. This role ensures materials are received correctly, identified and traceable, staged/kitted efficiently, moved through the shop in the proper sequence, and incorporated into production without delays or confusion.

This position requires a highly organized, dependable, self-starting individual who communicates well across teams, adapts to a fast-changing job-shop environment, and takes pride in running clean, disciplined processes.

Key Responsibilities Material Planning & Job Readiness
  • Review job plans, specifications, estimates, budgets, and scope to understand material requirements and workflow.
  • Develop a practical material logistics plan for each job covering receipt, identification, staging, kitting, and movement through fabrication.
  • Coordinate with Plant Managers and Production Leads to align material flow with production sequencing and changing priorities.
  • Identify material-related risks early (missing items, long-lead constraints, traceability requirements, staging constraints) and escalate with proposed solutions.
Receiving, Traceability, and Documentation Control
  • Coordinate with Receiving/Materials to ensure inbound materials are received, labeled, and documented properly.
  • Ensure traceability requirements are met (heat numbers, MTRs/CoCs, piece marking, lot control, and any job-specific requirements).
  • Work closely with QC to ensure material documentation is complete, accessible, and correctly tied to the job/package requirements.
  • Maintain accurate tracking records so material status is always visible and auditable.
Staging, Kitting, and Internal Material Movement
  • Plan and coordinate staging locations to support efficient fabrication (minimize handling, reduce congestion, improve flow).
  • Build and manage “kits” or job packages (parts/material grouped by work area, assembly sequence, or work order) to support production.
  • Coordinate internal movement of materials between laydown, fabrication bays, fit-up, welding, machining (as applicable), and shipping.
  • Create clear instructions/labels for production teams so material can be found, verified, and used correctly the first time.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Communication
  • Serve as the day-to-day point person connecting Plant Management, Production, Materials, and QC around material status and execution.
  • Conduct routine check-ins with Production Leads and Materials/QC to verify readiness and adjust plans as schedules change.
  • Provide clear updates on material constraints, staging status, and job readiness to keep production moving.
Continuous Improvement (Preferred / Plus)
  • Help implement and sustain practical LEAN improvements related to material flow, kitting, workplace organization, and standard work.
  • Recommend process improvements that reduce touches, prevent misidentification, and improve schedule reliability.
Success Measures (What “Good” Looks Like)
  • Materials are ready when production needs them—minimal waiting, searching, or re-handling.
  • Traceability is clean and audit-ready (heat/MTR alignment, piece marking, documentation control).
  • Job staging areas are organized, clearly labeled, and support efficient flow.
  • Production teams trust the system because it’s consistent and dependable.
  • Issues are surfaced early with solutions—not discovered late on the floor.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong organization, follow-through, and reliability (this role is a “make it happen” position).
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to work independently and drive coordination across teams.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to work effectively with plant leadership and shop personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and strong…
