FABRICATION MATERIALS & LOGISTICS COORDINATOR
Location: Bainbridge, GA (Fabrication Plant)
Reports To: Plant Manager(s) (Bainbridge)
Works Closely With: Production Leads, Materials Team, QC, Shipping/Receiving, Production Personnel, Project Management/Estimating (as applicable)
The Fabrication Materials & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning and coordinating the end-to-end material flow for large fabrication projects at Steward Machine Company’s Bainbridge, GA plant. This role ensures materials are received correctly, identified and traceable, staged/kitted efficiently, moved through the shop in the proper sequence, and incorporated into production without delays or confusion.
This position requires a highly organized, dependable, self-starting individual who communicates well across teams, adapts to a fast-changing job-shop environment, and takes pride in running clean, disciplined processes.
Key Responsibilities Material Planning & Job Readiness- Review job plans, specifications, estimates, budgets, and scope to understand material requirements and workflow.
- Develop a practical material logistics plan for each job covering receipt, identification, staging, kitting, and movement through fabrication.
- Coordinate with Plant Managers and Production Leads to align material flow with production sequencing and changing priorities.
- Identify material-related risks early (missing items, long-lead constraints, traceability requirements, staging constraints) and escalate with proposed solutions.
- Coordinate with Receiving/Materials to ensure inbound materials are received, labeled, and documented properly.
- Ensure traceability requirements are met (heat numbers, MTRs/CoCs, piece marking, lot control, and any job-specific requirements).
- Work closely with QC to ensure material documentation is complete, accessible, and correctly tied to the job/package requirements.
- Maintain accurate tracking records so material status is always visible and auditable.
- Plan and coordinate staging locations to support efficient fabrication (minimize handling, reduce congestion, improve flow).
- Build and manage “kits” or job packages (parts/material grouped by work area, assembly sequence, or work order) to support production.
- Coordinate internal movement of materials between laydown, fabrication bays, fit-up, welding, machining (as applicable), and shipping.
- Create clear instructions/labels for production teams so material can be found, verified, and used correctly the first time.
- Serve as the day-to-day point person connecting Plant Management, Production, Materials, and QC around material status and execution.
- Conduct routine check-ins with Production Leads and Materials/QC to verify readiness and adjust plans as schedules change.
- Provide clear updates on material constraints, staging status, and job readiness to keep production moving.
- Help implement and sustain practical LEAN improvements related to material flow, kitting, workplace organization, and standard work.
- Recommend process improvements that reduce touches, prevent misidentification, and improve schedule reliability.
- Materials are ready when production needs them—minimal waiting, searching, or re-handling.
- Traceability is clean and audit-ready (heat/MTR alignment, piece marking, documentation control).
- Job staging areas are organized, clearly labeled, and support efficient flow.
- Production teams trust the system because it’s consistent and dependable.
- Issues are surfaced early with solutions—not discovered late on the floor.
- Strong organization, follow-through, and reliability (this role is a “make it happen” position).
- Self-starter mindset with the ability to work independently and drive coordination across teams.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to work effectively with plant leadership and shop personnel.
