Terminal Operator

Job Summary

Reporting to the Terminal Manager, the Terminal Operator is responsible for safely operating all terminal equipment in connection with receiving, storing, transferring, and loading of liquid bulk products via trucks, pipelines, rail cars, water vessels or tanks. The role also includes testing of products and documenting results, maintaining terminal equipment, preparing various terminal reports, and performing general facility maintenance. This is a safety‑sensitive position.

• Ensure the safe operation of the terminal; maintain awareness of personal and co‑workers’ safety, and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
• Perform gauging of storage tanks, temperature readouts, and product sample collection.
• Carry out daily, monthly, quarterly, semi‑annual, and annual maintenance and compliance inspections, maintaining required logs.
• Complete daily meter readings for all products and input inventory data into appropriate systems.
• Verify all terminal equipment, including safety devices and systems, are functioning properly and report failures.
• Conduct daily walk‑around inspections to identify risks and uphold good housekeeping standards.
• Perform preventive and routine maintenance on operating equipment such as pumps, valves, meters, compressors, motors, tanks, pipes, terminal building, and other equipment.
• Calibrate and adjust all additive injection systems as required.
• Perform basic oil testing (viscosity, API, flash) when necessary.
• Complete monthly additive volumetric reconciliation documentation, take product samples, perform QC tests, and maintain the Product Quality Log.
• Issue work permits to contractors and ensure that pre‑job safety meetings, lockout‑tagout, confined space entry, and gas‑tech monitoring requirements are met.
• Ensure contractors, customers, and vendors follow company/terminal policies when accessing or working in the terminal.
• Communicate product outages and equipment downtime to appropriate individuals.
• Participate in emergency situations as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
• General knowledge of steam boilers, hot‑oil heaters, loading racks, product blenders, and automation systems.
• Basic computer and Microsoft Office experience and familiarity with terminal automation software such as Toptech.
• Ability to perform required mathematical calculations with or without a calculator.
• Ability to work outdoors for long periods in any weather condition.
• Ability to work overtime and on a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
• Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Industry experience is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license (terminal specific).

• Normal overtime or extended work hours required.
• Normal physical mobility, including heavy lifting, heights, bending, stooping, climbing, and use of hand tools.
• Ability to stand, walk, move across large and uneven terrain, sometimes quickly.
• Agility to maneuver body while in place.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs. regularly and handle objects up to 90 lbs with appropriate frequency.
• Use up to 100 ft./lb. of force to operate cycling valves.
• Climb heights >60 ft., ascend stairs or ladders, work atop tanks, traverse metal walkways at heights.
• Work in confined spaces such as tanks, compressors, and vessels.
• Normal dexterity, coordination, endurance, concentration, memory, decision‑making, and color vision; ability to make decisions under pressure.

• Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, temperature extremes, cramped spaces, loud noises, chemicals, fumes, dust, heights, and work safety hazards.
• Frequent work in high, precarious places.
• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, hand tools, and small‑to‑medium‑sized power tools.
