Job Summary

Material Handling Technician I role encompasses four indirect labor positions:
Receiving, Shipping, Parts Warehouse, and Driver. This position primarily focuses on shipping.

Responsibilities
  • Receiving:
    Verify counts of incoming and outgoing materials, receive purchase orders, distribute products to required departments, and move parts to appropriate work centers.
  • Shipping:
    Pull, pack, and prepare finished goods for final shipping to customers; refill product bins with incoming inventory; and receive product into the warehouse.
  • Parts Warehouse:
    Issue manufacturing orders for production, issue kits to final assembly, maintain accuracy of component parts, and maintain inventory of knife components.
  • Driver:
    Transport finished goods and raw materials between warehouse locations within a specific timeframe; operate box truck safely and responsibly; load and unload materials and finished goods from a truck individually or as part of a team; verify and transact loads for accuracy.
  • Material Handling Technician II:
    Demonstrates proficiency in two of the above areas or functions as an advanced shipper responsible for Big Box/Fed Gov and specialty domestic shipments requiring EDI/ASN understanding and training.
  • Material Handling Technician III:
    Proficient in all Technician I and II tasks within the shipping department and performs all tasks related to various international shipments.
  • Manage inventory electronically using Syspro MRP system and other computer applications.
  • Maintain inventory by identifying, labeling, and placing materials in stock; record location of inventory.
  • Perform cycle counts of inventory.
  • Provide excellent service to customers (internal stakeholders) and vendors.
  • Operate lift trucks, pallet jacks, and other equipment safely to move parts and inventory to proper locations.
  • Maintain material‑handling equipment by completing pre‑use inspections; identify when lock‑out tag‑out is appropriate.
  • Display keen awareness of safety guidelines, procedures, and policies; identify and report safety concerns.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Support ongoing reporting of key performance metrics.
  • Display job specific competency as defined by training proficiency matrixes.
  • Contribute ideas on ways to improve or optimize warehousing procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent and 3-4 years of shipping, receiving, or warehouse experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Able to work in a manufacturing environment (exposure to noise, coolants, abrasives, heat, cold, adhesives, automated and manual machinery) wearing PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, and Kevlar gloves).
  • Familiarity with MRP systems and performing inventory transactions.
  • Basic understanding of inventory controls and cycle counting.
  • Strong computer and data entry skills required (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with co‑workers, internal customers, and vendors.
  • Demonstrate great attendance, punctuality, and time sensitivity.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and multi‑task accurately.
  • Quality‑conscious individual with excellent attention to detail.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Works well in a collaborative and positive team environment.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
Additional Qualifications For Driver
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL not required).
  • Ability to follow all federal and/or state laws, regulations, guidelines, and agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
  • At least 25 years old at time of application due to insurance requirements.
Working Conditions (Common To Material Handling Roles)
  • Working environment:
    Production floor.
  • Physical demands:
    Repetitive lifting up to 50 lbs; standing, bending, and walking for long periods.
  • Travel requirements:
    As needed, less than 5% of the time.
  • Overtime and/or shift change may be required.
Working Conditions (Additional Considerations For Driver)
  • Working environment:
    Production floor, warehouse floor, and driving on highway and local roads.
  • Physical demands:
    Sitting and standing for long periods.
  • Travel requirements:
    As needed, more than 80% of the time in vehicle to and from company locations.
