Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate 6th Grade English Language Arts (ELA) / Social Studies Teacher to join our team at Parkridge
. The ideal candidate will create an engaging, supportive, and academically challenging classroom environment that helps students strengthen their reading, writing, communication, critical-thinking, and social studies skills.

This position is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality instruction in both English Language Arts and Social Studies
, while supporting the academic and social-emotional development of middle school students. The teacher will use a variety of instructional strategies, assessments, and technology to meet diverse learning needs and prepare students for continued academic success.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver high-quality, standards-aligned instruction in 6th Grade English Language Arts and Social Studies
  • Develop engaging lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, grammar, research, and communication skills
  • Provide Social Studies instruction that develops students' understanding of history, geography, culture, civics, and other applicable grade-level content
  • Encourage critical thinking, discussion, collaboration, and independent learning
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying academic abilities and learning styles
  • Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction based on student performance
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and respectful classroom environment through effective classroom management
  • Incorporate technology and digital resources into instruction to enhance student learning and engagement
  • Maintain accurate records of student grades, performance, attendance, and academic progress
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers, administrators, and support staff to strengthen instructional practices and student outcomes
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and other assigned activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and goals of the school
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Social Studies, History, or a related field
  • Valid Louisiana teaching certification appropriate for the position or enrollment in an approved alternative certification program
  • Previous experience teaching ELA and/or Social Studies at the upper elementary or middle school level preferred
  • Strong knowledge of reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literacy development
  • Knowledge of grade-level Social Studies concepts and standards
  • Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for students with diverse learning needs
  • Ability to effectively use student assessment data to guide instruction
  • Experience with or willingness to integrate technology into daily instruction
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and academically challenging learning environment
Desired Skills
  • Experience teaching middle school students
  • Familiarity with digital learning platforms such as Google Classroom and other educational technology
  • Experience using interactive whiteboards, tablets, and digital resources to enhance instruction
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to learn new instructional strategies and technologies to improve student outcomes
  • Passion for helping students develop strong literacy, critical-thinking, and social studies skills
