Senior Staff Accountant: GAAP, Audits & Close Expert

Job Summary

Our client is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join their accounting team in Bakersfield. This role is responsible for full-cycle accounting operations, complex reconciliations, and preparation of GAAP‑compliant financial statements. No prior agriculture experience is required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 3–5 years of consecutive professional accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
• Experience with internal controls, audits, and compliance
• Industry experience in Agriculture or Oil & Gas strongly preferred
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Positive attitude and strong work ethic

• Perform month‑end close activities, including recurring journal entries, fixed assets and depreciation, allocations, fuel entries, and cash transfers
• Manage cash receipts and code daily bank deposits
• Reconcile intercompany accounts receivable and advances
• Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, including:
  • Prepaid expenses (water, insurance, etc.)
  • Payroll taxes and garnishments
  • Tree/vine deposits
• Prepare budget‑to‑actual variance analyses and explanations
• Assist with year‑end tax preparation
• Support internal and external audits
• Implement and maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with accounting standards
