KCERA Accountant I: $2,507.68 - $2,996.91, paid bi-weekly
KCERA Accountant II: $2,912.41 - $3,480.60, paid bi-weekly
KCERA Senior Accountant: $3,365.64 - $4,022.25, paid bi-weekly
Examination Schedule- Written Exam: conducted on July 31, 2026.
Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
Examination ContentWritten Exam (Weight 100%):
Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of principles and practices of financial management, and control mechanisms; the California Public Records Act, the County Employees’ Retirement Law of 1937; organizational development;
Principles of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Government Accounting Standard Board (GASB) principles and changes; financial and operational auditing standards and techniques; preparation of financial statements, notes, and supplementary schedules; preparation of bank and securities reconciliations;
State and Federal taxation and payroll laws; preparation of Federal and State tax reports; actuarial principles and concepts;
Investment products, services, and guidelines; budget preparation and monitoring.
Education and experience which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field AND (3) three years of progressively responsible general accounting and/or auditing experience or (2) years of experience in governmental accounting and/or auditing.
Education and experience which has led to the acquisition of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business Administration, or related field. If the major has been in a field other than accounting, at least 15 semester units or 25 quarter units of college level accounting courses must have been completed OR evidence of having passed all four (4) parts of the Uniform Certified Public Accountant examination OR possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate will satisfy this requirement, AND four (4) years of progressively responsible full-time professional level accounting and/or auditing experience OR two (2) years of experience at a level equivalent to KCERA Accountant.

Background Check & Medical/Drug ScreeningA background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
Exam Eligibility & ProcessAdmittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made er permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
