Role DescriptionThe Experienced Paving Foreman is a full-time, on-site role based in Bakersfield, CA. This position is responsible for leading paving crews on daily job assignments, coordinating labor, equipment, and materials to complete projects safely, on schedule, and to specification. The foreman oversees asphalt paving operations, including layout, grading checks, compaction, and finish quality, while ensuring adherence to project plans and applicable standards.
Day-to-day duties include directing crew members, monitoring heavy equipment operation, communicating with project managers and inspectors, and enforcing safety protocols and site housekeeping. The role also involves tracking production, reporting progress, assisting with basic maintenance checks on equipment, and providing on-the-job training and guidance to crew members.
- Strong supervisory skills, including crew leadership, task coordination, and on-site decision-making.
- Proficiency working around and directing heavy equipment such as pavers, rollers, graders, and related machinery.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with crew members, subcontractors, inspectors, and management.
- Basic carpentry or concrete formwork skills for curbs, gutters, and related structures are beneficial.
- General maintenance awareness to identify equipment or site issues and coordinate appropriate repairs or servicing.
- Several years of experience in asphalt paving or road construction, including prior foreman or lead role experience.
- Thorough understanding of paving methods, grades, compaction, and quality control standards.
- Commitment to safety practices, including familiarity with OSHA requirements and jobsite safety procedures.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and to meet the physical demands of a construction environment.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation; additional equipment or CDL endorsements are a plus.
