Estimator - Commercial Construction & Public Works

Old Ironsides Construction is the fastest-growing commercial construction company in Kern County. We’re a Bakersfield-based GC focused on commercial and public works projects: schools, public facilities, and private commercial builds. We hold a B license and C‑8 Concrete license and are pursuing our A General Engineering license.

• Calm, cool, level-headed under pressure and on bid day

• Refuse to mail it in or “good enough” an estimate
• Direct communicator who tells the truth about risk, scope, and costs

• Lead quantity takeoffs and detailed cost estimates for commercial and public works projects
• Review plans, specs, addenda, and RFIs to build clear, competitive, compliant bids
• Solicit, scope, level, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes
• Ensure compliance with California public works requirements (prevailing wage, bid forms, bonds, etc.)
• Support budgeting, value engineering, and preconstruction planning
• Hand off clean, documented estimates to project management when we win

If you don’t already have these, this is not the right role:

• Daily, hands‑on experience with Procore
• Daily, hands‑on experience with Bluebeam
• Strong plan/spec reading and scope-building ability
• 3+ years estimating commercial construction (public works strongly preferred)
