Position Description

General Summary

A cost estimator collects and analyzes data so as to estimate how much time, money, material, and labor it will take to either provide a service, manufacture a product, or construct a project.

Essential Job Functions

• 1.Regular and reliable attendance.
• 2.Responsible for taking off quantity data to estimate costs for various types of projects.
• 3.Confer with engineers, designers, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
• 4.Researching the cost of items such as materials, transport, labor and equipment.
• 5.Getting quotes from suppliers and contractors within a specified time frame.
• 6.Assessing the risk levels associated with a project.
• 7.Preparing and submitting quotations and details of costs for work to be done.
• 8.Responsible for analyzing blueprints, construction drawings and other documentation to prepare time cost, materials and labor estimates.
• 9.Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
• 10.Establish and maintain tendering process and conduct negotiations.
• 11.Perform duties assigned by upper management.
• 12.Follow all KS Industries, LP safety, and customer policies and procedures.
• 13.Shall perform all physical and mental requirements listed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to read and write in English
• Ability to comprehend and communicate instructions in English
• Ability to read blueprints/construction drawings
• Ability to communicate with employees and various business partners in a professional and courteous manner.
• Knowledge of technology (Computers, iPads, cellphones etc.)
• Knowledge with Microsoft Office products
• Skills with critical thinking and decision making

Education and Experience

Preferably 5 years of industry experience.

Physical & Mental Requirements Less than 1% 1% to 33% 34% to 65% 66% to 100%

Lifting/Pulling/Jerking/Grasping/Raising/Lowering:
Must be able to lift, grasp up to 50 lbs. with the use of fingers, palm and wrists to hold and/or manipulate objects (hammers, saws, pencils, pens etc.) Must be able to raise and lower objects from one level to another. X

Squatting/Twisting/Bend/Reaching/Stooping/Squatting/Kneeling:
Must be able to twist, squat, kneel and bend in various positions with or without objects. X

Pushing:
Must be able to exert force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force. X

Carry/Support:
Must be able to carry and provide support to objects, usually holding it in hands, arms and/or on the shoulders. X

Body Positions;
Supine/Seated/Standing:
Must be able to work in a supine, seated or standing position. X

Working Conditions: The work environment and working conditions described here are representative of those that are typical of the job and must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic). This position may require field visits. The locations vary from site to site.

Work is physically demanding and requires the ability to concentrate well on the job at hand, in all types of weather. Majority of the work is construction-based work. Walking and working surface vary depending on the terrain, from flat to extreme slopes and frozen, wet, snowy and slippery conditions.

Working Hours: Normally, a full-time employee will work 40 hours per week, depending on the factors such as weather and schedules. Work schedules and hours may vary depending on specific client locations and projects. In general, applicable work schedules include 5-8’s and 4-10’s. All labor laws in reference to rest breaks and meal periods will be followed.
