Job description and duties

Effective july 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable memorandum of understanding, the personal leave program 2025 (plp 2025) was implemented. Plp 2025 requires each full-time employee in bargaining unit 16, and related excluded, exempt and statutory exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 4.62 percent and will receive 8 plp 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months.

Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

This classification is subject to section 5, hiring-above-minimum (ham) authorization of the california state civil service pay scales. The authorized ham rate for this classification is: p $26,677, q $28,156, r $29,640.

Under the general direction of the chief physician & surgeon, correctional facility (cf), the physician & surgeon, cf (internal medicine/family practice [im/fp]), cf provides medical care to patients in a correctional facility. The physician & surgeon, cf (im/fp), performs medical assessments and provides medical treatment for assigned patients as appropriate and authorized by the medical license and consistent with department policies, procedures, and clinical guidelines.

The physician & surgeon, cf (im/fp) provides clinical consultation and support to advanced practice providers and instructs nursing and other clinical staff on medical protocols and adheres to professional medical standards of care. The physician & surgeon, cf (im/fp) is assigned on call duties.

Minimum qualifications:

Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in california as determined by the medical board of california or the california board of osteopathic examiners. And possession of a valid internal medicine or family medicine medical or osteopathic specialty certificate issued by an american medical specialty board or an american osteopathic specialty board; or admissibility to an internal medicine or family medicine specialty examination as evidenced by a written statement from the secretary of the american board of family medicine or the secretary of the american board of internal medicine.
