Internal Medicine - Critical Care Physician

Start: Go-Live April 1 Nights needed April (long stretches preferred)
Setting: Multi-site Open ICU + Tele-Critical Care

Adventist Health Bakersfield is seeking experienced Critical Care physicians for locum coverage across a 4-hospital regional ICU model, combining in-house coverage and Tele-ICU (tCC) support.

This is a high-acuity, procedure-heavy role ideal for ICU physicians comfortable managing open ICUs with limited ancillary support.

Providers Needed

• 2 Night Shift Providers

  • Main campus:
    Bakersfield (12-hour shifts)

  • Also responsible for Tele-ICU coverage for Tehachapi

• 4 Day Shift Providers

  • Bakersfield Main Campus: 10-hour in-house shifts + Tele-ICU

  • Delano & Specialty Bakersfield: 8 hours in-person + 16 hours Tele-ICU

Shift Structure

• Day Shifts: Hours TBD (2 10-hour day shifts at Bakersfield)

• Night Shifts: 7:00 PM 7:00 AM

• Long stretch availability strongly preferred, especially for nights

  • 10 ICU beds 6 hrs in-person + Tele-ICU Solo coverage

Delano and Specialty Bakersfield are paired expect some travel between these sites.

• ICU Type: Open ICU (Hospitalist performs initial ICU H&P; ICU physician manages thereafter)

• Average Census (per provider):

  • Bakersfield: 13 ICU pts + Tele-ICU support

  • Specialty Bakersfield: 4 pts

  • Delano: 3 pts

  • Tehachapi (Tele-ICU): 2 pts

• Night Admissions (Bakersfield):

  • Typical: 2 3 admits

  • Busy nights: up to 5 6 (including upgrades)

Procedures Required (Recent Logs Expected):

• Intubations

• Central Lines

• Arterial Lines

• Chest Tubes

• Ventilator Management

Additional Expectations

• Open ICU management

• Respond to in-house codes when on site

• Comfortable practicing without APP support

• Board Eligible or Board Certified Critical Care

• 2+ years Critical Care experience required

• Active California Medical License

• ACLS & BLS required

• Complex, high-acuity ICU medicine

• Mix of in-house and Tele-ICU coverage

• Long-stretch scheduling available

• Regional ICU model with meaningful autonomy
