Basic FunctionPart‑time, hourly adjunct instructors are welcomed on a continuous basis so that the division can contact qualified applicants promptly if a need arises. Selected applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted by department supervisors, deans, or division chairs. Applications remain active for up to two years. The starting salary range is $67.00/hour; the hourly rate may vary based on assignment type and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.
RepresentativeDuties
The successful applicant will provide instruction in a full range of Sociology courses, including teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend sessions, large classes, and distance learning using multiple teaching methodologies. Additional duties include participation in student recruitment, articulation of transfer programs for the Social Science department, maintaining subject‑matter currency, developing and revising curriculum, and using computer and multimedia technology for instruction.
Collegial participation in departmental, college‑wide, and discipline‑specific professional activities is required.
- Master’s in sociology;
- Bachelor’s in sociology AND Master’s in anthropology, ethnic studies, social work, or psychology;
- Possession of a valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Sociology at the California Community College level;
- Equivalent qualifications as determined by a screening committee. Candidates may request an equivalence evaluation by submitting the required form and supporting documents.
A demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students is required.

- Ability to work with students who have a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals;
- Ability to develop curriculum modalities;
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities;

- Maintained subject‑matter currency;
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that benefit the program;
- Commitment to the California community college mission;
