Basic FunctionAccept applications for part‑time, hourly adjunct instructors continuously. Qualified applicants may be contacted immediately if a need arises. Applications remain active for up to two years.
Responsibilities / Representative Duties- Provide instruction in a full range of Chemistry courses, including teaching at multiple campus sites, day, evening, weekend, large, and distance‑learning classes.
- Use multiple teaching methodologies and multimedia technology.
- Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Science department.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency and develop/revise curriculum.
- Engage in collegial participation in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.
- Master’s degree in chemistry; or
- Bachelor’s in chemistry or biochemistry plus a Master’s in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry; or
- Valid credential authorizing full‑time teaching of Chemistry at the California Community College level; or
- Equivalent combination of education, experience, and accomplishments (submission of an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form required).
- Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students.
- Work effectively with colleagues in an innovative teaching environment.
- Work with students of varied skills and goals.
- Develop curriculum across modalities.
- Recruit and articulate with local schools, colleges, and universities.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Maintain subject‑matter currency.
- Assess student learning outcomes.
- Use computers and explore new technologies beneficial to the program.
- Commit to the California community‑college mission.
