Basic FunctionThis position is part of a continuous part‑time adjunct faculty pool for Kern Community College District. Qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements may be contacted for open teaching assignments.
Representative DutiesProvide instruction in the full range of Theatre courses. May teach at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and use multiple teaching methodologies. Additional duties include:
- Student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the Performing Arts department
- Maintaining subject‑matter currency
- Developing and revising curriculum
- Using computer and multimedia technology
- Participating collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities
- Master's or Master of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance
- OR Bachelor’s or Bachelor of Fine Arts in drama/theater arts/performance AND a Master’s in comparative literature, English, communication studies, speech, literature or humanities
- OR the equivalent
- Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
- Accredited degrees and credits (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by an accepted credential evaluation service.
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population
- Ability to work with students of varying skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals
- Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities
- Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject‑matter currency
- Ability to assess student learning outcomes
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that benefit the program
- Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission
