Position: History Instructor (Rising Scholars Program, Chicano Studies) Full-time Tenure Track

Basic Function

Faculty member for History to teach in the Bakersfield College Rising Scholars Program. The program serves incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Proven experience teaching in inmate education and Chicano studies is highly desirable. The faculty member will teach day, evening, or weekend classes; large classes; distance learning classes; and may teach at other campus sites.

Representative Duties

Responsibilities include preparing and delivering instruction in History, developing curriculum across modalities, assessing student learning, participating in recruitment and articulation activities, and serving on committees and campus events. Faculty members should remain current in their discipline and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in History; or Bachelor’s in History and Master’s in political science, humanities, geography, area studies, women’s studies, social science or ethnic studies; or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues in a collaborative environment.
  • Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills and motivations.
  • Ability to develop curriculum across modalities.
  • Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities.
  • Effective oral and written communication.
  • Maintaining subject‑matter currency.
  • Assessing student, program, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to adopt new technologies.
