Child Development Instructor – Part-Time Adjunct Pool

Salary: $66.00 hourly – hourly rate may vary based on type of assignment and the Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE) formula.

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Qualified applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted immediately if a need arises within the specific department. Applications remain active for up to two years.

This role is part of an adjunct pool used to staff part‑time adjunct positions in the Child Development Center.

• Master’s in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education, or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education.
• Bachelor’s in any of the above degrees
  * and* a Master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies, or family and consumer studies.
• Equivalents of the above (including certain combinations of education, experience, and accomplishments). Applicants with equivalent qualifications must submit an Application for Equivalence with supporting documents.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
• Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). International degrees require evaluation by a NACES or ACEI‑approved service.
• Approval of a screening committee is required; meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview.

• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning, and service to a diverse student population.
• Ability to effectively work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals.
• Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities.
• Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency.
• Ability to assess student learning outcomes.
• Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program.
• Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission.
