Basic FunctionBakersfield College seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty member for Veteran Services and Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). The instructor will provide comprehensive counseling, develop CPL initiatives, and support veteran and military‑connected students in achieving academic success.
Representative Duties- Provide academic, career, transfer, and personal counseling services to veteran and military‑connected students, including individualized education plans.
- Lead the implementation, training, and continuous improvement of CPL and Mapping Articulated Pathways (MAP) initiatives.
- Evaluate and interpret transcripts, military training, workforce experience, certifications, and other experiential learning to determine CPL opportunities.
- Collaborate with faculty, departments, and administration to develop, review, and maintain CPL and military course articulations.
- Facilitate the creation, submission, and maintenance of CPL exhibits, MAP documentation, and related curriculum materials for institutional compliance.
- Assist students and stakeholders with CPL and MAP processes via the MAP CPL Search Portal and related inquiries.
- Integrate CPL awareness into counseling and educational planning practices, ensuring veterans and general students are informed of prior‑learning opportunities.
- Support the CPL Coordinator through communication with campus governance and operational groups.
- Provide counseling and support services to active‑duty service members, veterans, reservists, National Guard members, and military‑connected students.
- Participate in professional development, training, and outreach related to CPL, MAP, veteran student success, and evolving regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of veteran and military‑connected student populations, military culture, transition challenges, and relevant regulations.
Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or equivalent. A bachelor’s degree plus a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification.
Candidates must demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
