About the Department
The Behavioral Sciences Department employs 20 full‑time faculty and offers high-quality instruction in behavioral science disciplines. The Psychology program has 11 full‑time faculty, serves approximately 3,300 Psychology majors, and delivers 130 to 150 class sections each semester across multiple modalities. Faculty collaborate on interdisciplinary learning, curriculum development, and continuous program improvement.
Program Details
The Bakersfield College Rising Scholars Program is an innovative initiative that provides incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals with access to higher education and opportunities for personal and academic growth. It operates in correctional facilities and focuses on transformative educational experiences.
- Master's in psychology.
- Or Bachelor's in psychology AND Master's in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work.
- Or equivalent combination of education, experience, and accomplishments.
- Demonstrated sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds and disabilities.
- Degrees from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by a recognized credential evaluation service.
Certain combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments may be judged as equal to the stated minimum qualifications. Candidates with equivalent qualifications must submit the APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form along with supporting documents.
Desirable Qualifications- Experience working in the field of psychology or related disciplines.
