Instructional Student Assistant (ISA) – Arts and Humanities Tutoring Center
The Arts and Humanities Tutoring Center is seeking applicants to fill the Instructional Student Assistant position.
Position OverviewAt CSUB’s Tutoring Centers, we believe that learning is a social process, not a solitary one. Our mission is to promote student success and independence by providing a welcoming environment for dialogue and feedback. Tutors provide support to students across a wide range of concepts, assignments, and students’ needs.

Hours0-20 hours per week
Key Responsibilities- Tutor students at all levels of competency, including problem solving, conceptual analysis, study skills, reading comprehension, writing, and exam preparation.
- Assist with academic activities such as homework, exam studying, research papers, language lab assignments, and projects.
- Collaborate with professors to provide assistance to groups and individuals, including students who speak English as a second language or have special needs.
- Proactively promote tutoring services through outreach, classroom visits, communication with tutees, and flyer distribution.
- Support the Tutoring Center Coordinator and Lead Tutor with administrative tasks and special projects.
- Attend required meetings and trainings.
- Support colleagues in maintaining service integrity and efficiency.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and effective communication with students and staff.
- Engage in tutoring, staff meetings, center operations (opening/closing, cleaning, supplies, filing), and training.
- Organize and facilitate study groups of 4–15 students.
- Deliver brief classroom presentations about the Tutoring Center services.
- Communicate with tutees via email or phone to arrange appointments and encourage service use.
- Participate in training sessions and staff meetings.
- Significant subject expertise confirmed by faculty recommendation, course completion, or related achievements.
- Effective communication skills to articulate concepts and problem-solving strategies.

Additional Information- Salary: Starts at $17.86 per hour. Salary scale varies by department.

- Eligibility: Positions are for matriculated CSUB students only.
- Work Limit: Students are limited to 20 hours of part-time work on campus.
