Overview
Kern Community College District is soliciting applications for part-time, hourly adjunct instructors. The starting salary is $66.00/hour. This is an adjunct pool that will be used to staff assignments at Bakersfield College Main Campus and may include teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, and using multiple teaching methodologies. All communication courses at Bakersfield College are taught using face-to-face, in-class instruction.
Responsibilities- Provide instruction in public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, and small group communication. This assignment may include opportunities to teach rhetoric, argumentation, persuasion, organizational communication, leadership, and health communication.
- Develop curriculum and teach using multiple modalities as needed.
- Engage in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.
Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication; OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication or English; OR the equivalent. A demonstrated ability to understand diverse student backgrounds is required. Degrees must be from accredited institutions. If applicable, applicants may request equivalence via the Application for Equivalence process.

- Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency and assess student learning outcomes.
- Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that benefit the program.
