CSG Behavior Support Aide

Under the direction of Behavior Intervention Specialist the primary role of the Behavior Support Aide is to: empower all students to fully participate in the core curriculum and achieve academic and behavioral success; help students develop skills in areas such as study skills, organizational skills, attendance, academic engagement, peer interactions, conflict resolution, and communication with home; monitor playgrounds during recess to assist in preventing inappropriate behavior;

and instructing and reinforcing appropriate behavioral expectations. Reports to Site Admin or designee. Continues employment contingent upon receipt of program funds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proof of High School Diploma (or GED) AND Rigorous standard of quality on formal state assessment or local assessment OR Two years of college credit OR Associates of Arts Degree
  • Knowledge of basic concepts of child growth and development, and developmental behavior characteristics
  • Student behavior management strategies and techniques
  • Appropriate English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar
  • Basic arithmetic concepts
  • Routine record management, storage, and retrieval systems and procedures
  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) intervention strategies;
    Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports; child development processes; interpersonal skills needed to manage crisis situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude toward students of varied age groups
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form in English
  • Ability to perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of education and office related machines and equipment
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with children and adults
  • Ability to respect confidential matters
  • One year of paid or voluntary experience working with multi-age groups of children or the equivalent
  • Possess or secure within six (6) months of employment a certificate for first aid and CPR issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent

Essential Functions of This Position:

  • Assist with design and implementation of various intervention strategies and programs to support student achievement
  • Be visible on playground areas during student recess and in classrooms to reinforce positive behavior
  • Work with students individually and in groups, at various locations on campus, to assist with specific academic, social-emotional, and behavioral strategies and interventions
  • Assist students in monitoring their classroom behavior and help students develop strategies and techniques for self-management to ensure academic success
  • Assist with the training and reviewing of behavioral expectations of students in various campus settings
  • Provide support to staff in designing and implementing intervention strategies to support students' behavioral and social skills
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, and student progress/data meetings for the purpose of sharing information and improving skills and knowledge
  • Collect and analyze data on discipline, attendance, and referrals; provide support to staff on progress monitoring; maintain student files for the purpose of records management
  • Provide communication to family and staff regarding student's behavior progress
  • Work effectively and maintain a professional rapport with teachers, students, and other staff
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information in accordance with district, state, and federal mandates and other specific legal requirements or policies
  • Demonstrate awareness and sensitivity toward students and their individual differences in terms of abilities cultures, and languages
