Computer Science Instructor

Salary: $89,080.98 - $ Annually

Job Type: Temporary – Full Time Faculty

Department: Engineering & Information Technology

Responsibilities
  • Teach introductory and intermediate courses in computer science, including Java, C++, Assembly Language, and Discrete Structures.
  • Design, develop, and revise curriculum for AS degree and career certificates.
  • Use computers and technology to deliver instruction through various modalities and assessment tools.
  • Maintain subject matter currency and demonstrate knowledge of emerging areas such as Artificial Intelligence, embedded systems, app development, machine learning, augmented reality, and big data.
  • Participate in student recruitment, articulation, and transfer programs, and in all campus activities that support student learning.
  • Assess student, program, and institutional learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, students, and community partners to support diverse student success.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • OR bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering AND master’s degree in Mathematics, Cybernetics, Business Administration, Accounting or Engineering.
  • OR bachelor’s degree in Engineering AND master’s degree in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics or Business Administration.
  • OR bachelor’s degree in Mathematics AND master’s degree in Cybernetics, Engineering, Mathematics or Business Administration.
  • OR bachelor’s degree in any of the above fields AND a master’s degree in Information Science, Computer Information Systems or Information Systems.
  • OR equivalent educational and professional experience.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socio‑economic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
Knowledge & Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an innovative teaching environment.
  • Ability to engage students with varied skills, motivations, and goals.
  • Ability to develop curricula and deliver instruction through diverse modalities.
  • Ability to participate in student recruitment and articulation activities with local institutions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to maintain subject‑matter currency.
  • Ability to assess learning outcomes at student, program, and institutional levels.
  • Knowledge of computers and willingness to adopt new technologies that support student success.
  • Commitment to the California Community College mission.
