Job Summary:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment; assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans as required; perform related clerical duties. Ability to:

Assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans. Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing and duplicating materials. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures. Read books to students and assist with reading and writing activities as assigned. Observe health and safety regulations. Maintain records and files. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Operate standard office and classroom equipment. Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment.

Sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students. Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities. Hearing and speaking to exchange information. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.

Ability to lift 25 lbs. Ability to carry 25 lbs. Essential Functions of this Position:
Assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing instruction to individual or small groups of students in a classroom.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Certification of District Proficiency in areas of Reading, Writing, and Mathematics by Passing the District Proficiency Exam One of the following may be submitted in place of the District Proficiency Certificate:
• Proof of passing Proficiency Exam from any district
• AA Degree or higher
• At least 48 college units You will need to meet the following clearances:
• Fingerprint clearance (DOJ background check)
• Verification of Freedom from Tuberculosis (TB) which is valid for 4 years

• Other (AA Degree or higher /48 college units or Paraprofessional Certification)
• Proof of HS Graduation

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
