The Department of Criminal Justice at California State University Bakersfield is consistently one of the largest programs within the College of Social Sciences and Education, with over 500 majors across the Bakersfield and Antelope Valley Campuses. The department has 8 full-time faculty and 9 part-time lecturers who specialize in a variety of criminal justice areas, offering students a comprehensive education in both theory and practice.
This diverse curriculum includes courses in policing, corrections, courts, theory, research methods, ethics, correctional counseling, criminal investigation, criminal law, policy, and other critical areas within the field of criminal justice. In addition to teaching, the department strongly engages with community partners, creating internship opportunities, service-learning experiences, and career pathways for students. Student mentorship, professional development, and high-quality instruction are central to the program's mission.
Description
The Department of Criminal Justice at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers.
Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31, 2027.
If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15, 2027.
- Master's degree in criminal justice or a closely related field
- Demonstrated subject-matter competence appropriate to the courses being assigned
- Ability to teach in person at the Bakersfield campus
- Advanced graduate education, such as a terminal degree (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D., or MPA)
- Prior college or university teaching experience
- Relevant professional experience in the field, including supervisory, leadership, or management training
- Experience with Canvas (CSUB's preferred learning management system)
- Demonstrated ability or experience working with diverse student populations
Lecturer. Anticipated salary range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. Full-time equivalent salary ranges are as follows (amounts pro-rated for part-time assignments):
