The Executive Pastor serves alongside the Lead Pastor to help execute the mission and vision of the church through staff leadership, preaching, and discipleship. This role focuses on strengthening the health and effectiveness of church ministries by leading and supporting ministry staff, assisting in pastoral responsibilities, and helping carry out the direction set by the Lead Pastor and church leadership.
The Executive Pastor will serve as the Lead Pastor’s primary preaching substitute and will play an important role in the teaching ministry of the church. He will also lead a small group and participate actively in shepherding the congregation. This position is designed as a leadership development role with the potential pathway to becoming Lead Pastor in the future, contingent upon demonstrated calling, character, doctrinal alignment, and affirmation by church leadership and the congregation.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Execute the Vision of the Church: Work closely with the Lead Pastor to carry out the mission and vision of the church. Help ensure that ministries, programs, and staff efforts remain aligned with the church’s direction and priorities.
- Lead our Small Group Effort: Oversee our small groups ministry. Facilitate a small group in order to model discipleship, build relationships within the congregation, and participate directly in the life of the church.
- Staff Leadership and Oversight: Provide leadership and oversight to church staff. Encourage a healthy ministry culture, provide accountability, and help ministry leaders succeed in their areas of responsibility.
- Preaching and Teaching: Serve as the primary substitute preacher for the Lead Pastor and be prepared to preach and teach faithfully when needed. The Executive Pastor must be able to clearly communicate and faithfully handle Scripture.
- Pastoral Ministry: Assist in shepherding the congregation through discipleship, counseling, leadership development, and pastoral care as needed.
- Spiritual and Character
Qualifications:- Meets the biblical qualifications for an elder (1 Timothy 3:1–7; Titus 1:5–9)
- Demonstrates spiritual maturity, humility, and a shepherd’s heart
- A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a life marked by integrity and godliness
- Doctrinal Alignment:
- Basic agreement with the church’s doctrinal statement
- A commitment to the authority of Scripture and faithful biblical teaching
- Education and Experience:
- Seminary training preferred (MDiv or equivalent)
- Previous pastoral or ministry leadership experience preferred
- Demonstrated ability to lead people and develop ministry leaders
