Safety Specialist – Oil & Gas / Energy

This role leads field safety efforts across oil and gas, energy, and industrial services operations by conducting inspections, audits, and training to ensure full compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, and client-specific requirements. You will develop and implement safety programs, investigate incidents, and partner closely with field teams and major operators to promote a proactive, prevention-focused safety culture.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular field safety inspections, audits, and jobsite observations across oil and gas, energy, and industrial services locations.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, Cal/OSHA, client-specific, and company safety requirements in all field operations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety policies, procedures, and training programs tailored to field activities.
  • Lead incident investigations, perform root cause analyses, and develop corrective and preventive action plans.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, orientations, and ongoing employee safety training for field personnel.
  • Communicate directly with safety representatives from major operators and lease holders to align safety expectations and requirements.
  • Perform routine and ad hoc site visits to verify safe work practices, regulatory compliance, and adherence to company safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, certifications, and documentation to support regulatory and client requirements.
  • Assist management with risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation strategies for field operations.
  • Promote and reinforce a proactive safety culture by coaching employees, recognizing safe behaviors, and addressing unsafe conditions promptly.

Essential

Skills:

  • Minimum 3+ years of safety experience within the oil and gas, energy, or industrial services industry.
  • Proven experience working directly with major producers and lease operators in California oilfields.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal/OSHA regulations and their application in field environments.
  • Hands-on experience conducting safety audits, incident investigations, and employee safety training.
  • Demonstrated safety management experience in environments such as oil and gas or energy operations.
  • Experience with safety procedures, safety audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Knowledge of EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) principles and health and safety best practices.
  • Experience delivering safety training and coaching employees on safe work practices and PPE usage.
  • Proficiency in using and enforcing proper PPE and other safety controls in field operations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships with field staff and client representatives.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field locations throughout the region.

Additional Skills & Qualifications (Preferred, Not Required):

  • OSHA 30 Certification.
  • HAZWOPER Certification.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Professional safety credentials such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or similar.
  • Experience supporting construction, production, drilling, workover, completion, or maintenance operations in oil and gas or energy environments.
  • Experience collaborating with major operators and lease holders on safety initiatives.
  • Ability to develop and deliver engaging safety meetings, toolbox talks, and orientations.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage safety records, reports, and certifications effectively.
