Engineer I​/II

The current vacancy is in the Water Department.

These are multi-divisional classifications, and the positions may be hired for different divisions in different departments.

Under general supervision, performs entrance-level professional civil engineering work in connection with surveying, designing, construction, and maintenance of Public Works projects and surface water and groundwater projects; and performs other work as required.

Under supervision, this class performs work of average difficulty involving technical and professional work making design layouts, engineering calculations, and miscellaneous studies in the City Engineering Department.

• Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in Engineering;
  OR
• Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer in Training by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers may be substituted for the required education. A copy of the EIT certificate must be turned in with the application by the filing deadline for the application to be accepted

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in civil engineering;
  AND
• Engineer in Training (EIT);
  AND
• Minimum one year experience in the practice of civil engineering, or possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate from the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers;
  AND
• Minimum two years’ experience in the practice of civil engineering

• Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license

• A copy of the EIT certificate must be turned in with the application by the filing deadline in order for the application to be accepted

An appraisal will be made of the applicant’s experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

NOTE:
Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination.
