Project Engineer — Low-Voltage Design & Implementation (E-Rate Category 2 & Non-E-Rate Design)
Infinity Communications & Compliance, Inc. | Bakersfield, CA - Full-time
About UsInfinity Communications & Compliance is a national E-Rate consulting and technology design firm serving 400+ school districts and libraries. Our design team takes K-12 technology projects from funding strategy through design, RFP, and implementation oversight — and we're growing it.
About the RoleThis is a true hybrid engineering seat: half in the field and in front of clients, half driving projects through design and implementation. You'll survey sites, produce designs, and then stay with your projects through construction — coordinating contractors, reviewing submittals, and verifying the work in the field. You own it from walkthrough to close‑out.
And there’s an upside most engineering roles don’t offer: you'll earn commission on new business you originate. If your industry relationships, conference presence, or reputation bring a new client to Infinity, you get paid for it. It's not a quota and it's not required to succeed here — it's a reward for engineers who have a network and the instinct to use it.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Perform site surveys and client walkthroughs at school districts nationwide, translating field conditions into scopes of work
- Design low‑voltage systems for K‑12 environments: structured cabling, LAN/WAN, wireless infrastructure, and related building systems
- Manage projects through implementation: construction coordination, submittal review, RFI responses, punch lists, and field verification through close‑out
- Represent Infinity with technology directors, facilities staff, architects, and contractors — the relationships that make projects go smoothly and occasionally bring new ones through the door
- Network with local businesses and technology leaders to win low voltage design projects over multiple disciplines that are not tied to E‑Rate: VOIP, Alarms, Cameras, Wireless Access Points, Keyless security doors
- 3+ years in low‑voltage design, telecommunications engineering, or network infrastructure, with field/implementation experience — K‑12, public sector, or E‑Rate a strong plus
- Ability to read construction documents and produce clear design deliverables; CAD/Bluebeam proficiency preferred
- BICSI credentials a plus — RCDD or working toward it is a meaningful differentiator
- Equal comfort on a job site and in a design review; you can talk to a superintendent and a cabling foreman in the same afternoon
- Willingness to travel regularly for site surveys and project support
Base salary $75k – $110k plus commission on new clients you originate.
Why InfinityYour designs won’t sit on a shelf — they get funded and built, because they’re tied to an E‑Rate funding strategy from day one. You'll join a design team with deep roots in K‑12 infrastructure, RCDD leadership to learn from, and a leadership team that pays for initiative.
