As a Junior Mechanical Engineering Consultant on our professional consulting services team, your role is to work independently on small projects of low and medium complexity as part of the project team through all phases of a project lifecycle. You will work with close guidance and supervision to execute tasks and support designers and drafters on related tasks and projects. The Mechanical Engineering Consultant will perform a variety of tasks which may include design, specification, calculations, and field work.
Key Responsibilities- Responsible for small projects of low and medium complexity.
- Supports project team in development of design documentation, plans and reports for relevant project design elements.
- Assists in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
- Ensures appropriate application of codes and standards (both legislated and customer‑specific).
- Follows Stantec quality of project deliverables.
- Evaluates all mechanical engineered systems or products for a project.
- Effectively manages multi‑discipline technical staff and promotes team spirit to execute projects successfully.
- Performs mechanical engineering calculations.
- Provides support for developing Design Basis Memorandum (DBM).
- Completes required mechanical calculations for equipment sizing, material selection, etc.
- Understands and directs work within Stantec’s quality control guidelines.
- Prepares and revises documentation in various mechanical phases.
- Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and basic cost estimating.
- Promotes quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
- Assists in the development of new standards and specifications for the mechanical group.
- Assists with the development of proposal for smaller, less complex projects.
- Manages and executes mechanical engineering deliverables on multiple projects in a dynamic work environment.
- Assists in the development of Piping Specifications and Hydrotest procedures.
- Performs pump sizing, wall thickness calculation by ASME B31.3 / B31.8 and B31.4.
- Becomes a champion of Stantec's EH&S program, with a focus on safety in the field.
- Ensures all work is completed with safety of paramount concern.
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering design principles and applicable ASME, CSA, API, TEMA, ASTM, NACE codes and standards.
- Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems and methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Good knowledge of hydraulics software:
Pipe Phase, Pipe‑Flo, AFT Fathom, AFT Impulse. - Good knowledge of Google Earth, Bluebeam Vu, Navisworks, AutoCAD viewer tools.
- Good knowledge of:
Vessel Rating, Heat Exchanger rating, PV‑Elite, COADE Caesar. - Extensive Oil/Gas and General Industries experience required.
- Participates and collaborates in multidisciplinary project team setting and engages in creative and critical thought with passion for successful outcomes.
