Under direction, leads, reviews, coordinates, and performs a wide variety of highly complex professional transit, transportation, and urban planning functions including current and long‑range transportation and mobility planning, implementation of the General Plan, coordination of special projects, drafting ordinances and resolutions, making presentations to various groups, facilitating citizen participation in the planning process, training and mentoring assigned staff, and performing other related work as required.
EssentialDuties
- Plans, organizes, and performs assignments pertaining to transportation planning implementation
- Facilitates cross‑departmental coordination and delivery of a wide range of pilots and capital improvement projects
- Assists with preparation of system plans of transportation facilities and services including highways, public transportation, and nonmotorized facilities
- Performs transportation studies for the development of transportation systems of all modes
- Mentors and trains assigned staff
- Assists in the development, interpretation, and implementation of the General Plan with emphasis on circulation element
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Geography, Public or Business Administration, Architecture, Economics, or related field
- Four (4) years of professional and progressive planning experience including urban or transportation planning activities, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the capabilities to perform the described duties
- Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license
An appraisal will be made of the applicant's experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.

Retirement:
Benefits are provided by the City's participation in the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). 2% @ 62 for new hire Miscellaneous and 2.7% @ 57 for Safety (Fire & Police). Visit the City's Retirement Info page for additional information.
