Job Summary
The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by the UCSF Medical Center and its providers and payors. These services include drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of drug use policies within the Medical Center; drug information services for clinicians and patients;
and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs.
The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Services share a philosophy of pharmaceutical care. Under Pharmaceutical Services, the Pharmacy Technician II provides pharmaceutical care to patients at Parnassus, Mission Bay, and Mount Zion campuses and performs all activities related to medication preparation, inventory management, and computer entries of prescriptions. All Pharmacy Technicians are accountable to the supervising or operating pharmacist who is legally responsible by virtue of state licensure for the care and safety of patients served by Pharmaceutical Services.
All Pharmacy Technicians are accountable to the outpatient manager or operating pharmacist who is legally responsible by virtue of state licensure for the care and safety of patients served by Pharmaceutical Services. Performs all activities related to traditional pharmacy prescription dispensing and medication distribution. They may also participate in the computer entries of medications and prescriptions, including entries of specialty medications in the patient profile as directed by a Pharmacist.

Please note:
The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate and the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Certain terms and conditions of employment for this position, including the rate of pay, benefits, etc., are currently subject to negotiation with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees
- Patient Care Technical Unit (AFSME-EX).
- Completion of a recognized/accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program (includes hands‑on training period during externship), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician in hospitals or health care, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Pharmacy Technician Certification CPhT
- Preferred candidates with at least two years of I.V. Additives experience
- Knowledge of USP 797/800 standards, hazardous and aseptic IV techniques for sterile compounding
- Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint software programs, Pyxis machine, and Primary Engineering Control (PEC)
Active Licensed Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy and in good standing
