Position: Safety Coordinator (50293)

The Safety Coordinator is a full-time position responsible for supporting and maintaining safety compliance, regulatory recordkeeping, and operational safety programs across Sunridge operations. Working under the direction of the Director of Human Resources and in collaboration with the Safety Supervisor, this role serves as a first responder for workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses and plays a critical role in ensuring all incidents are properly reported, documented, and communicated in compliance with applicable federal and state requirements.

This position helps implement, maintain, and continuously improve workplace safety programs while ensuring employee training, records, and compliance documentation are accurate, current, and audit ready. The Safety Coordinator also supports employee engagement and shared ownership of safety practices across all nursery and facility operations.

Qualifications

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Serve as a first responder for workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses, providing immediate assistance, assessing the situation, and initiating required reporting protocols.
  • Ensure all workplace incidents are promptly documented and reported in accordance with company policy and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Coordinate with the workers’ compensation insurance carrier, providing timely and accurate information, documentation, and follow-up as required.
  • Maintain, implement, and update safety programs in alignment with all applicable federal, state, and local agency requirements (including but not limited to Cal/OSHA and OSHA), ensuring programs remain current and compliant.
  • Maintain accurate and complete safety-related records, including injury and illness logs, employee training records, certifications, and regulatory documentation.
  • Plan, schedule, conduct, and document weekly Tailgate Safety Meetings, ensuring required safety topics are covered and attendance is tracked.
  • Coordinate and ensure all required safety training is scheduled, completed, and properly documented, including new hire and recurring training.
  • Maintain and manage the Safety Training Calendar, ensuring ongoing compliance with training requirements.
  • Post, track, and maintain required safety and regulatory postings throughout all facilities, updating signage as regulations change.
  • Assist with pesticide safety compliance, maintain documentation, and ensure pesticide safety training requirements are met.
  • Support internal and external safety audits and inspections (e.g., Cal/OSHA), including documentation preparation, inspection support, and corrective action tracking.
  • Promote employee awareness, engagement, and investment in safety through consistent communication, training participation, and reinforcement of safe work practices.
  • Provide administrative and operational safety support to Nursery Managers as needed, including documentation, communication, and compliance assistance.
  • Perform general office and administrative duties related to safety and compliance under the supervision of the Director of Human Resources.

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish (read, write, and speak).
  • Experience supporting safety, compliance, HR, or administrative functions.
  • Ability to respond calmly and effectively to workplace incidents and emergencies.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Required Training & Certifications

  • CPR / AED Certification
  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry (Agriculture)
  • Pesticide Safety Training
  • Tractor Safety Training
  • Forklift Safety Certification

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years of prior safety, regulatory compliance experience is strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to walk and work throughout indoor and outdoor nursery environments, including greenhouses, shade houses, and facility areas with uneven terrain.
  • Ability to respond to incidents by walking job sites to conduct safety checks and post signage.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, or standing.
  • Ability to work in office, greenhouse, shade houses, and outdoor agricultural environments in varying weather conditions.
