Senior Cybersecurity Engineer – Full‑Time – Shift

Estimated hourly pay: $48.97 to $60.23 (includes 6% premium). Additional compensation may include differentials, incentives, bonuses and participation in the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

- Develop and execute a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy aligned with business goals and industry best practices.
- Ensure the serviceability and integrity of the Security Operations Center (SOC) equipment and tools.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on SIEM, SOAR, EDR, IAM, PAM, IDS/IPS, WAF, DLP, email security, and other security systems; provide technical leadership and toolset enhancements.
- Lead and participate with cybersecurity analysts in SOC day‑to‑day operations.
- Perform threat hunting, analyze threat intelligence, evaluate indicators of compromise and coordinate incident escalation.
- Evaluate vendor solutions, recommend and lead projects for deployment or enhancement of security systems.
- Participate in incident response team executing the Incident Response Plan and playbooks.
- Review cybersecurity requests, approve or escalated in accordance with normal operational security processes.
- Support SOC efforts in digital forensics and eDiscovery.
- Liaise with other departments on operational security matters.
- Maintain documentation on tools, processes, procedures and playbooks.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Systems or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years of professional IT experience, including 3 years in cybersecurity.
- Knowledge of IAM and PAM.
- CompTIA Security+, CompTIA CySA+, SSCP or equivalent certifications.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, HITECH, SOX and other security compliance requirements.
- Previous experience in an acute healthcare organization.
- Understanding of NIST 800‑53 framework and controls.
- Experience installing and supporting Microsoft Windows services and platforms.
- Proficiency in Power Shell and scripting languages.
- Implementation of enterprise security best practices (encryption, MFA, auditing and forensics, data retention).
- Network protocols, routing, switching, LAN/WAN, remote access, encryption protocols.
- Troubleshooting firewall/IDS/IPS, DNS security, WAF.
- Experience with Office
365, Azure, Microsoft Cloud App Security. - Knowledge of SIEM, SOAR, EDR, DLP and web filtering.
- Leadership and team‑building skills.
- Professional written and oral communication.

- Customer‑service orientation and responsiveness.
- Document creation and maintenance.
