Position: Court Reporter - Bakersfield 018

COURT REPORTER – Metropolitan Division (Bakersfield)

Compensation: $86,207.05 – $ annually, with up to 9% premium pay for real‑time services and certification.

Incentives:

  • Hiring bonus: $5,000
  • School student loan forgiveness: up to $5,000
  • One‑time relocation allowance: up to $10,000
Responsibilities
  • Report verbatim notes of all court proceedings; provide real‑time transcription or read back records as directed.
  • Read testimony aloud at the direction of the Court.
  • Produce and certify formal written and electronic transcripts; archive court reports and transcripts; ensure official record security.
  • Receive and process transcript requests; estimate costs for requesting parties.
  • Research medical, legal, and technical terminology; develop and modify custom software dictionaries; set up and maintain court reporting equipment.
  • Archive notes (stenographic and voice files) on the court electronic storage system.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) license issued by the Court Reporters’ Board of California, with real‑time skills.
  • Valid Class C California Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, legal terminology, court operations, etiquette and conventions, specialized vocabulary, English grammar, and court reporting equipment and software.
  • Ability to simultaneously listen and make a verbatim record of proceedings; attention to detail; effective communication in English; timely production of transcripts; coordination with judicial, support, and administrative staff; cooperativeness under time constraints; travel and relocation flexibility; proficiency with personal computers and software.
  • Physical capability to sit and report over prolonged periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform required tasks.
