Position Information
Examination:
Appraisal (Weight 100%). Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicant’s training, education, experience, interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any of the following: investigation, oral exam and/or review of application. Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in management information systems or computer science AND three (3) years of experience in the administration, maintenance, and/or technical support of a local area network (LAN) including providing connectivity to a departmental host system; setting up, maintaining, and upgrading network operating systems and application software for a department or organization.
- Completion of sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university with a concentration in information systems or computer science AND five (5) years of experience in the administration, maintenance, and/or technical support of a local area network (LAN) including providing connectivity to a departmental host system; setting up, maintaining, and upgrading network operating systems and application software for a department or organization.
- Completion of one (1) year from an accredited technical or vocational school training program, in computer technology or computer science AND five (5) years of experience in the administration, maintenance, and/or technical support of a local area network (LAN) including providing connectivity to a departmental host system; setting up, maintaining, and upgrading network operating systems and application software for a department or organization.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Senior Information Systems Specialist in the Kern County classification system.
- Seven (7) years of increasing responsible experience, with six (6) years of experience in the administration, maintenance, and/or technical support of a local area network (LAN) including providing connectivity to a departmental host system; setting up, maintaining, and upgrading network operating systems and applications software for a department or organization.
Possession of vendor specific certification, such as Novell Certified Netware Engineer (CNE) or Microsoft (MCSE) Certificate, is desirable. Qualifying experience must have been within the last eight (8) years.
Additional RequirementsMust possess a valid Class “C” California Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
Background Checks and Medical ScreeningA background check may be conducted for this classification. Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post‑offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense. Admittance to the examination will require a valid government‑issued photograph identification. Candidates are expected to be willing to travel to Kern County locations (areas/district offices) where they would accept employment.
